What is Colon Hydrotherapy (Colonics)?

Colon Hydrotherapy is also known as colonics or colon irrigation. These terms describe the process of using warm filtered water for the inner cleansing of the colon. This helps the colon to release fecal material and restore the natural rhythm to your digestive tract. The colon is approximately five feet in length and colonics will allow water to flush the entire length.

Who is it suitable for?

Most adults who are in generally good health are able to receive colon hydrotherapy. It would not be indicated if you have any of the following conditions:
Crohn’s Disease, Congestive heart failure, Uncontrolled Hypertension, Aneurysm, Ulcerative Colitis, Diverticulitis, Severe Anemia, Renal Insufficiency, Severe Hemorrhoids, Cancer of the Colon, Recent surgery of Rectum or Colon, Advanced Pregnancy (1st and 3rd trimester), Abdominal Hernia, Cirrhosis, Gastrointestinal hemorrhage/perforation, Fissures or Fistulas

What to expect?

Once on the table, a sterile disposable tube called the speculum will be gently inserted into the rectum approximately 2 – 3 inches and secured with a strap to prevent it from coming out. A water hose and waste hose are then attached to the speculum and connected to the colonic machine.. Warm filtered water is allowed to fill the colon in a series of fills and releases. Every colonic is different and your therapist will work with you to make the session as comfortable and effective as possible. The equipment has a viewing tube if you should like to see what is being released.

Will I have to take my clothes off?

You will have to disrobe from below the waist. You will be given a hospital-type gown and a comfortable dressing room to change in. Every effort will be made to maintain your comfort and dignity.

Is the treatment painful?

No, but the process may cause some cramping. Every effort is made to make you as comfortable as possible and you may stop treatment at any time to finish up on the toilet.

How long is a session?

A typical session will last approximately forty-five minutes but can be as little as twenty or thirty minutes depending on how your body responds to the treatment. After the treatment, time is spent on the toilet to expel what was not previously released.

Will I lose weight?

Colon hydrotherapy is not for weight loss but you may temporarily lose up to a pound during a session.

Can I use my phone during the treatment?

Yes, you may, but limit it to surfing and texting as the therapist will be asking you questions during the treatment.

How should I prepare for colonics?

Two days before a session limit your intake of red meat, bread, pasta, and potatoes. On the day of treatment, do not consume any alcohol, fried food, or highly spiced food. Use the bathroom as much as you can before the session. Drink water in preparation for the colonic. If you think you will be hungry, try and eat more than two hours before your appointment. (A full stomach can be uncomfortable).

What type of equipment is used?

Equipment is manufactured by Clearwater Colon Hydrotherapy Inc. The Clearwater is a closed system that uses sterile, disposable speculums and is a Class II, FDA-approved colon hydrotherapy machine.
